ETL Tester

JD:

An ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tester ensures the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data as it moves from source systems into a data warehouse or target database. [1 , 2]

Core Roles and Responsibilities

• Requirement Analysis: Review source-to-target mapping (STM) documents, business rules, and data models to understand data transformation logic. [1 , 2]

• Test Planning and Design: Create test plans, strategies, and detailed test cases covering various data scenarios. [1 , 2]

• Source Validation: Verify source data integrity, run row-count checks, and perform initial record reconciliations before extraction. [1 , 2]

• Transformation Testing: Write complex SQL queries to validate that business rules and transformation logic are correctly applied in staging or intermediate areas. [1 , 2]

• Target Loading Verification: Validate that data loaded into the target tables matches expected values, checking constraints, primary keys, indexes, and aggregate values. [1 , 2]

• Defect Management: Identify data discrepancies or pipeline failures, log defects in tracking tools (like Jira or ALM), and collaborate with developers to resolve them. [1 , 2 , 3]

• Test Automation and Regression: Develop and maintain automated test scripts or regression suites to handle continuous data updates and pipeline changes. [1 , 2]
