Job Description and Duties

Under general supervision of the Education Administrator I of the Office of School Based Health and Safety Programs, and the Student Success and Career Readiness (SSCR) Branch, the Education Programs Consultant (EPC) manages and directs Project Cal-Well, a federal-funded competitive mental health grant; manages and oversees the statewide administration of the California School Climate, Health, and Learning Survey (CalSCHLS) and Stronger Connections Technical Assistance Center; provides guidance and supports for the Restorative Practices grant; and provides guidance and leadership to the development and implementation of other school climate and mental health initiatives.

-Grant Management: Plans, coordinates, facilitates and manages all aspects of Requests for Applications (RFAs), grant development, implementation and execution of reports, expenditures, and deliverables associated with grant process.

-Presentations/Meeting Coordination: Plans, coordinates, and facilitates meetings and work groups; prepares and delivers presentations and trainings for LEAs, community and county-based partners, and statewide and national conferences.

-Represents the CDE and the interests of students in grades K–12, their parents, and their families at regular meetings such as California Behavioral Health Planning Council, MHSOAC, California Mental Health Advocates for Children and Youth, MHSA Community Partners Forum, Mental Health Matters Day, Directing Change, and others.

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Employee will be expected to sit at a desk for an extended duration, and walk or drive between CDE headquarters.

Personal Leave Program 2025

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.

Working Conditions

TELEWORK OPTION

HYBRID

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.

  • 2. How would you plan and deliver a statewide webinar series on crisis response and Comprehensive School Safety Plans. Address how you'd assess participants' diverse regional needs, which topics you'd choose and why, how you'd measure effectiveness, and your follow-up steps.
  • 3. Describe your experience researching, reviewing, and analyzing documents and preparing written responses. Provide specific examples of your role, the support provided, and the outcomes.
  • 4. What other experience, education, knowledge, or skills make you the ideal candidate for this position.
